Oxford University Warns Authors Not To Write About Bacon, Pork To Avoid Offending Muslims and Jews
The largest university press in the world has warned its authors not to mention pigs or pork in their books to avoid offending Muslims and Jews.
Oxford University Press (OUP) defended the move by saying it needs to make its books available to the “widest possible audience.” “Many of the educational materials we publish in the U.K. are sold in more than 150 countries, and as such they need to consider a range of cultural differences and sensitivities,” a spokesman told... Anti-Semitism A Big Problem At Us Colleges, Report Says
A comprehensive survey of anti-Semitism at American colleges recently released shows that significant hostility is directed at Jews on U.S. campuses
Kosmin and Keysar’s survey follows the 2013 Pew Research Center’s “Portrait of Jewish Americans,” which found that 22 percent of young Jews reported being called an offensive name in the previous year because they are Jewish, a far higher percentage than older Jews. It also comes 10 years after the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights declared that... Continue Reading
Arkansas Bans Webcam Abortions
Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson signed a bill Wednesday banning remotely administered abortions, a preemptive strike designed to protect women’s safety.
The now-banned procedure, known as telemedicine or webcam abortions, allows an abortionist in one location to administer abortion-inducing drugs by remotely unlocking a drawer in the pregnant woman’s location. But the distance between the abortionist and woman places the woman at risk should complications occur, said bill sponsor state Sen. Missy Irvin. (WNS)–Arkansas Gov.... Continue Reading
3 Reasons A Post-Racial America Is A Myth
Are we really living in a post-racial America?
“I know, pointing out issues in our justice systems sounds like a broken record. But tell that to the countless number of men and women who are broken by their records; men and women who are further dehumanized when we take away their right to vote, receive government assistance, and secure gainful employment.” I... A Perfect Storm Is Heading Toward Higher Education
With too-high tuition and unhappy parents, college administrators better get ready for some changes.
So what should colleges do? First, they need to recognize the inevitability of change. Change is coming, and those schools that embrace it are far more likely to survive. Second, they should start listening to the constituency that is paying the bills. Providing real job skills and job placement assistance—along with a solid education—should take... Continue Reading
Calling in the Big Guns to Fire at the San Francisco Archdiocese
The first casualty of this PR war is the truth; Singer says that his mission is to “push the facts as our clients see them.”
As expected, the first casualty of this war is the truth. Singer has said that himself, suggesting that his mission is to “push the facts as our clients see them.” Noting that Singer “has a complex relationship with the truth,” reporter Joe Eskenazi wrote in the Weekly that “the truth, after all, isn’t exactly Singer’s... Euthanasia Comes to Canada
Are we next?
This month, the Canadian Supreme Court trampled democratic deliberation by unanimously conjuring a constitutional right to “termination of life” for anyone who has an “irremediable medical condition” and wants to die. Note the scope of the judicial fiat is not limited to the terminally ill: The ruling grants competent adults a right to die if... Continue Reading
What ISIS Really Wants
The Islamic State is no mere collection of psychopaths. It is a religious group with carefully considered beliefs, among them that it is a key agent of the coming apocalypse.
That the Islamic State holds the imminent fulfillment of prophecy as a matter of dogma at least tells us the mettle of our opponent. It is ready to cheer its own near-obliteration, and to remain confident, even when surrounded, that it will receive divine succor if it stays true to the Prophetic model. Ideological tools... Boko Haram wants to “cleanse” Nigeria of Christians
“As the attacks have accelerated in recent weeks, leaders from various Christian denominations in Nigeria have called on their Christian brothers and sisters in the West, along with all people of goodwill, to speak out against the mounting violence in their country.” Seldom in recent memory has the Western world seemed more united than... The standoff between the former Atlanta fire chief and the city that employed him has escalated
“Cochran, who is an evangelical Christian, was terminated in January after a city investigation pertaining to his self-published book, “Who Told You That You Were Naked,” a Bible study-style text that covers a range of his personal religious beliefs.” The standoff between former Atlanta fire chief Kelvin Cochran and the city that used to employ him escalated on Thursday, when...
