Rev. Tim Tinsley, former associate minister of Park Cities Presbyterian Church in Dallas, has been called as the 13th pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Chattanooga, Tenn. He was elected by the congregation at a meeting December 20, Judge Mickey Barker, chairman of the nine-member search committee, said.
Judge Barker stated, “We’re excited about Rev. Tinsley. He was the associate at a church of about 5,000 members; Park Cities is ‘a flagship church’ of the PCA.”
Tinsley follows Dr. Michael Milton, who left in December 2007 to become president and professor of practical theology at Reformed Theological Seminary in Charlotte. The search committee interviewed a number of candidates during a year long search.
Tinsley was born in St. Louis, Mo., but grew up in the Phoenix, Arizona area. He attended WheatonCollege, graduating in 1980.
While serving as the youth director at Cedar Spring Presbyterian Church in Knoxville, Tenn., Tinsley attended Birmingham Theological Seminary, completing his training at Dallas Seminary after moving to the staff at Park Cities in Dallas. He served at PCPC in various positions in evangelism, youth and families prior to being called as associate pastor in 2001.
