UPDATE for Tuesday, September 7 for TE Brian Kelso, pastor of Christ Covenant Church (PCA) in Southwest Ranches, Fla. (Ft. Lauderdale area) Brian remains in critical condition, but is taking more “little steps” towards recovery.
Update as of Tuesday, Sept. 7
Update information from Christ Covenant PCA on their pastor, Brian Kelso:
Brian remains in critical condition, but is taking more “little steps” towards recovery. He is off the breathing mask and his pneumonia and other lung issues have subsided. He is still on dialysis and heavy pain meds. His liver is in slightly better condition than it was yesterday (which remains a concern). The doctors are taking him off the malaria meds tomorrow, which will take a lot of stress off his liver. The malaria meds are strong and weaken the liver.
While Brian is still in a weak condition and has a long road ahead of him to recover, these are good signs and should bring us encouragement.
Update: Friday, Sept. 3
Brian Kelso’s situation is improving. The doctors have now concluded that he does NOT have Dengue Fever, but is suffering from a serious case Malaria. His platelet count has increased, but is still dangerously low, and his vital signs are improving. He is receiving less pain medication. All of these indicators are good signs. He is still being treated in the ICU and the doctors have said that Brian still has a long way to go for a healthy recovery. Continue to pray for a full recovery.
TE Brian Kelso, pastor of Christ Covenant Church (PCA) in Southwest Ranches, Fla. (Ft. Lauderdale area) has been diagnosed with Dengue Fever, a potentially life-threatening disease found in the tropics. The disease is transmitted by mosquitoes and is sometimes called the “bone-crusher disease” due to the severe body-aches and soaring fever. Tests indicate that he may also have malaria and double-pneumonia, both of which are greatly complicating his illness. He is also on dialysis. The next few days are critical. Please pray as individuals and churches for Brian, his wife, Barbara, and their four children.
Cards and letter can be sent to the church address: Christ Covenant Church, 4700 SW 188th Ave., Southwest Ranches, FL 33332-1320. The church staff asks that Brian’s family not be contacted directly at this time.
The congregation held a special prayer meeting on Thursday evening, September 2.
